Dear SSES Families,

I am writing to share with you some important information about the Health Office at Samuel Staples Elementary School. Like many schools, we are experiencing an increase in the complexity of medical needs among our students. To meet these needs, we are fortunate to have a dedicated registered nurse and a full-time Health Office Assistant. However, as many of you know, we have had four different registered nurses in the past five years, and when our full-time nurse is absent, we rely on substitute nurses from an agency. The consistent feedback we have received is that the SSES Health Office is extremely busy.

On average, our Health Office staff sees approximately 50 students each day. While many of these visits are essential, a significant number are for matters that can be addressed in the classroom with basic first aid. To support our nursing staff and ensure that they are available for students who truly need medical attention, we have made antiseptic wipes and bandages available in every classroom, as well as in the cafeteria and on the playground.

As always, we ask our staff to use their judgment in determining when a student requires the attention of the nurse. This will allow the Health Office to focus on students with more serious or complex medical needs, while still ensuring that all children receive appropriate care and support.

Thank you for your partnership in helping us provide a safe and healthy environment for all students.

Sincerely,

Kimberly Fox Santora
